This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 23, 2007:
That's easy. The one i wrote, or rather cobbled together. Like many of the respondents i would have had difficulty picking just one book that changed my life since i drew so much from so many. So i chose what i found to be the juicy parts from thousands of books by 2200 authors and put them into an anthology called Wisdom for the Soul: Five Millennia of Prescriptions for Spiritual Healing. 11,608 quotations are organized into 220 psychospiritual categories and can be accessed by theme or author. What is more they are in chronological order so you can trace the evolution of consciousness on a particular subject. Almost all the books mentioned already in these repiles are included. Like, it's a hard-cover cheat sheet.
This single book has made me into a self-supporting publisher, author, anthologist, presenter, teacher, and purveyor of wisdom; it has given me the language and content for my spiritual and life counseling practice, and website. It has taken me all over the country, in publications and on the radio, and who knows where next. Before this book, i still didn't know what i wanted to be when i grew up; now i have a pretty good idea.
